Obituary

Harriet “Malke” Soifer,Lincolnwood resident, Harriet “Malke” Soifer died December 2, 2013, at age of 90. Harriet was born April 3, 1923, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to Edward Friedman and Esther Friedman Levin. She graduated from Manley High School, where she met her sweetheart, best friend, and husband of 69 years, Edward Soifer. The cornerstone of our family she worked along side her husband in the family’s Foremost Liquor Store in Franklin Park. Harriet will be loved and cherished forever by her family, friends, and relatives. She was an avid square dancer and a member of the “Great Bunch Square Dancers” for nearly 30 years. Harriet was also involved in charitable and volunteer activities. She is a past president of the “City of Hope, Women’s Guild”, and a member of BJBE Synagogue. Malke is survived by her son Terry and daughter-in-law Twanna Soifer of Sanford, Florida; daughter Sheryl Soifer of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren Matthew & Courtney Soifer of Brooklyn, NY, and Andrew Soifer of Sanford, Florida; and great-grand-daughter Hannah Rose. Malke was preceded in death by her brother Sam Friedman and her sister Bee Kaplan. She was also the aunt, great-aunt, and great, great-aunt to many loving nieces and nephews; additionally, she was the sister-in-law to Herman & Francine Soifer, Dave & Esther Soifer, and the late Rose & Dan Stein. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the charity of your choice or donations may be sent to: City of Hope, Women’s Guild, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Suite 1530, Chicago, IL 60606, B’nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim, 1201 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield, IL 60015, or to Midwest Hospice Care Center, 2050 Claire Court, Glenview, IL 60025. Chapel service Thursday 10:00 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park.
